oddly, i find that my recent music purchases have come in small groups of threes. it's funny but just kinda how it happens for me, at least lately. unfortunately, i tend to overlook one of those CDs each time...in part because one tends to turn out not as strong as the others and also in part because of my habit of getting stuck listening to the same songs over and over again and depriving myself of variety as i often do.
the last "trio" of purchases came within a couple weeks of each other as i picked up the latest Usher (Here I Stand), the new Lil Wayne (Tha Carter III), and just yesterday snagged the latest from Above & Beyond (Anjunabeats 100 + From Goa to Rio). i managed to get my hands on the latest tiesto offering as well (In Search of Sunrise vol. 7 - Asia) and so i guess i really acquired 4 new albums [two of which are double discs]. it will be tough but i hope to work each into the lineup and continue to find new music [i already know of at least 1 more album i want to get...and the thirst for more music will never be quenched].
but all this means i've got a lot of listening to do as well as thinking for reviewing album in my spare time. aside from all the new stuff, i'm also behind on Paolo Nutini, the most recent Craig David, and I feel like there's something else I'm missing in terms of purchases unreviewed.
either way, it feels good to spend more time with music, seeking it out and just listening to it as i can and actively listening [as opposed to passively just having it on at times. obviously there's nothing wrong with passively listening but i feel a need to be more serious about music and challenge myself to learn more, experience more, and just develop my thinking in relation to it. happily i find myself re-immersing myself in trance...something i've needed for some time now...
getting back to music and thinking about it more and all that goes along with it definitely helps to center myself and find myself...without music i feel i'm a lost soul and in part the dearth on the musical front that has occurred at times recently must have something to do with some of the feelings i've had recently on a personal level. as such, i do need to get serious about music...doing so means getting serious about who i am.
